I moved out of my parents house and never signed up with a provider. So I didn’t cut the cord so much as I avoided entanglement in the first place.
My primary source of entertainment is just the basic, free YouTube. For any TV shows I like to watch, I usually catch them on Hulu. Sometimes I’ll have to go to the specific channels website instead (like if I want to watch Ghosts, I have to watch it on CBS). I currently have Netflix (gift card) and Prime (free month) but haven’t really seen anything worth watching recently.
Very importantly, I use ad block which makes some of these options less obnoxious to use (cough YouTube cough)
I stopped using streaming services because I got tired of ever-changing, randomly shifting media rights and outright deletions creating lost media.
Fuck Netflix, because their ad supported tier makes more money on ads than subscriptions.
Amazon’s library is really hit or miss, there’s stuff like The Expanse and Invincible but it’s probably the most limited streaming service available up here.
Disney+ owns all the rights to the Hulu stuff up here so it’s actually a pretty good deal - you get the Disney content, which includes all the Marvel and Star Wars stuff, and they brand all the Hulu content as “Star” which is apparently a big media name in Asia.
Crave owns the rights to a lot of stuff and that’s our way of getting HBO content. We don’t have MAX or HBO GO or anything like that, we have to pay our telcom provider who bought out the HBO rights ages ago to have access to the content.
With all that being said though? None of those subscriptions are really worth it. I find that if something is worth watching on any of the services, it’s worth finding a permanent local copy of to hang onto.
FWIW anything with an ad tier has it because it makes more money, not just Netflix.
Apple+ family plan and setup our own Plex server. ⛵️
I never got too into tv. Never had cable growing up. It’s weird when I visit somewhere and see a commercial. YouTube, Prime (I buy lots of random stuff so I already have it), torrents w/ Plex for organization. I’m slowly switching to jellyfin though.
