Official casual matchmaking can be rough, as you can gather from the comments, but it depends heavily on what maps you select to play and what region you are in. If it turns out to be too rough, check out community servers instead; many will be heavily modded custom stuff, but many more will be just plain vanilla gameplay.

Also, pick up mastercomfig and go through the installation. It will improve performance and also make the game look a bit better if you have a better PC.

If you end up liking the game, I would drop a few bucks to buy some crate keys from the in-game store. This will make your account no longer F2P, greatly expanding your backpack size. You can trade or sell the keys later on the community markets to pick up all the weapons and some hats (check scrap.tf, it’s a good site for this).

I promise you that despite the garbage that has accumulated over like 15 years, it’s still a good game. You say you’ve played Overwatch - that game took some inspiration from this one, so you may feel some similarity. Good luck!

Lots of racist and homophobic teens spouting hate. Tons of bots and cheaters. Mic spammers. Grouped players that’ll vote kick you off you say anything against how they’re acting. It’s a shit show.

Eh, depends. Some casual matches are like that. Some aren’t. Some community servers are pretty chill.

If you prefer co-op game modes over competitive ones, you might like the Mann vs Machine game mode! Because it has different difficulty settings available, it can be a relatively relaxed way to learn the game mechanics.

    I hope you enjoy playing!

well hopefully you enjoy the game, if you stick around there’s a lot of cool stuff the community runs like custom mann vs machine events like what potato.tf is currently hosting, people making new maps all the time like with the upcoming tf2maps 72hr jam coming, and of course there’s all of the community competitive pick up games and tournaments, I believe there’s the big in person one called insomnia? not sure about that one since it’s outside my region, but also got the ozfortress experimental cup starting soon for Australian’s. Hopefully you find something up you alley in the community!
