Turning productive again land into more strip malls is incredibly short sighted. I hope someone strengthens Williamson act protections on ag land to stop this craziness.

That’s not the issue. The supply of productive agricultural land is limited, and every year we get a little bit less as we exploit the fields more. Modern ag practices are akin to soil mining, where each year a bit more of the soil health is stripped out. Fertilizers can help, but it’s still a gradual loss over time.

Now, they’re planning on taking those productive ag soils and just shoving houses on top. It’s so short sighted and such a waste. Every year more strip malls and housing are built and the amount of ag lands gets less and less.

There’s plenty of space within existing urban limit lines to build more housing and development. Instead, we’re getting investors to destroy limited resources to cash out by making more mega mansions.
