Delivery riders considered independent contractors, not entitled to minimum pay, sick leave, annual leave. Uber pays $2 or $3 per kilometre, spends millions on advertisements.

I’m a delivery rider and I can say this piece depicts the job accurately. On the one hand the platforms tell us to wear a helmet, drive carefully, etc. But it’s all PR bullshit to wash their hands from what they truly want. They pay you bread crumbs to make you speed the delivery, disregarding your safety and the one of others around, and to try to finish as many deliveries as available during rush hour. Even with this reckless behaviour it’s almost impossible to make a decent living (yeah the State takes more of the bread crumbs as taxes 😢)
