Minetest runs well on my 7 year old laptop with Intel integrated graphics. Amazing game
Great.
I love minetest! Maybe we can have a server for Lemmy folks.
Nice Idea but we have very less players on Lemmy.
Is there a community for Minetest here on Lemmy? I’m a newbie.
Not terribly active yet, but if you have questions, I’m sure someone will answer: !minetest@lemmy.ml
someone have created. search it
Well, in order to make minetest like minecraft you gotta use essentiall a modpack right?
Yeah, the gameplay mechanics are largely modelled after Minecraft, but the default-included content differs (meaning many blocks will work different or are added/removed compared to Minecraft).
If you want a very Minecraft-like experience, MineClone 2 is the go-to for that: https://content.minetest.net/packages/Wuzzy/mineclone2/
That is essentially a modpack, but it should be noted that this isn’t some bolted-on, reverse-engineered workaround like modpacks in many proprietary games are.Minetest at its core is a game engine, and the whole game content (except for mapgens) is provided via the modding API. So, if you were to bundle up such a modpack with the Minetest engine, it would be equivalent to a proper game that happens to be written with the Minetest engine.
I tried it on a server awhile ago and was actually pretty impressed
