I (7+ years closeted to parents) made a comment about California’s first hurricane in 80+ years, and she responded with something like,
Maybe it will wash out all the gays and wicked people
🙄😮💨
Really?! I didn’t even know how to respond to that.
Also, somehow or another I guess it’s gotta come out.
“Is that what Jesus would say?”
I bet you the answer would be “yes.” There’s actually not a doubt in my mind. Most problematic Christian’s I know don’t think what they think because Jesus. They think what they think and use Jesus as a bulletproof vest.
Maybe, “Is that what Jesus would want you to say?”
It never really gets easier having ignorant parents. I hope you find a nice chosen family one day.
I would so fucking love that, but I also have crippling social anxiety so meeting people is very 🤷
Truth. My damage has been done.
You don’t have to associate with people just because you share genes. You’re meant to like knowing them.
They’re not all bad, just every now and then get one of these nuggets. Also, they’re basically the only break we get from two small children, so It’s a comicated situation, though I have been trying to come to terms with the idea that at least one kid(and me) have some stuff going on they may not accept, and while I May tolerate it more for myself, I have to be willing to add some space to protect the kids. I don’t want to get into specifics but I hope that makes sense.
I don’t want to part with them, but I know what my child might be feeling, and I really want to prevent any confusion or doubts that I may have had for lack of options or knowledge.
Well, as my best friend said before he stopped being my best friend, right before he became a pastor at a megachurch:
“hate the sin, love the sinner.”
He can go fuck himself.
Except they don’t really love the sinner, they hat the for their “sin” fuckers
The good parts of the bible are often taught but rarely followed.
Jesus was apparently a real guy according to consensus among biblical scholars, he just wasnt magical. Speaking as a satanic catholic, I would follow (edit: some of) the teachings of Jesus, but his dad can fuck right off.
Why do we always emphasize the things we think were good and ignore the bad teachings? Should we agree with him that skepticism is bad? That non-Jews aren’t worthy of his efforts or ministry? That there should be no personal accountability when acting in his name? I’ve got a list of verses where Jesus was a dick.
Critical reading of the scriptures is better than reverential.
Basic human trait: we focus on positive things and omit the bad parts related to an event, person or whatever.
Belief is not exempt.
I’d love to see the verses for “skepticism is bad” and “non-Jews aren’t worthy” personally. More for kicks and giggle than anything.
I just posted them here:
Aw the ones I was most interested aren’t as clear as I was hoping. But thanks for sharing!
Jesus, or yahweh?
Jesus. From the Gospels.
I guess I will have to read those books then. If you have any verses handy or any specific gospels that you think would be good to start with to give a more critical read on jesus I would love to see them. I did a quick read on wikipedia and didn’t see anything about jesus’s views on skepticism. The article says his followers and enemies claimed he was devine, but I don’t see that jesus himself did. The story goes that jewish people killed Jesus, and the article says it was due in large part to claiming he was devine.
I guess if hard pressed I would follow the teachings of jesus over yahweh, but mostly because I get haircuts, wear poly-cotton blends and eat shellfish. Jesus was never against these things, but I know yahweh would tell me to kill my son just for fun.
I’m glad you asked! Here’s a list of verses I’ve compiled that, in context and stated by anyone else, would get them run out of town.

Probably only recommended if you’re financially independent and live elsewhere. If things go poorly, you need a way to be able to leave. And if you have those first two, it’s probably best to do it slowly/gradually.
But for your first question, “That’s horrible. Why would you wish that on other people?” is often a great go-to to make people introspect. They might not do it in that moment, but your kids calling your thoughts and desires horrible has a way of sticking with you. (Source: am a parent)
And if you don’t live with your parents, you could even throw in, “What if I lived in California? Would you still wish for the hurricane?”
I’m sorry about that. I hope you find the freedom to find your own way in religion (or lack thereof) and not let it be defined by your ma & co.
Oh I’ve been out of it for 7+years now, no intention of returning.

"wicked people I can understand, but what did gay people ever do to you? "
I used to work a job for 2 weeks a year where i had to supervise 65 20 to 39 year olds. I hated it, mainly because getting thrown into 65 random men is never fun to me. Listening to a bunch of bigots and very often very racist people is the worst. I never told much about me, but often out of bordom, i made it seem that i’m gay. No one gace me shit for it, but they often made even more sure that i don’t hear their funny jokes. Every now and then i would ask a random guy what even his fucking problem with gay people is. And bo joke, everyone had basically the same story: i don’t mind gay people, as long as they don’t hit on me, followed by how they once got hit on by a gay dude and almost killed him with their mighty fists.
These are some often right win very overweight and not attractive people at all. I used to hang out in gay bars a lot, and people are generally very nice in there and i often got drinks by some guys, but i got never just hit on in some random bar by a random gay guy.Tl;dr almost every bigot i talked to has a story how a gay guy hit on them which made them very very angry.
Sounds like projection to me.
Right?! I’m not even 100 % sure if I’m gay but wtf ever I giess
Sometimes people are just hateful. A Christian I worked with was always very forward and speaking of god at least once a day. I lived in Panama City Beach in 2018 when Hurricane Michael came through. The storm turned to the East at the last minute and PCB they had been told to evacuate (many evacuated into Panama City being it wasn’t told to evacuated which is to the East). Base of the story, PC got hit harder than PCB. Several times I heard that coworker saying he hoped another hurricane came and hit PCB (where he lived as well) because he didn’t believe the people there had learned “gods lesson.”
He didn’t care how many people lost their homes and jobs.
If hurricanes are punishment, Florida really needs to get their shit together, because they get it way more than the rest of the country. Same for Oklahoma and tornadoes.
Never seems to occur to people like this that they themselves are wicked, for holding such unwarranted hatred in their hearts. Untold millions of innocents have suffered horrible deaths at the hands of these fanatics.

But when the Bible belt is being destroyed by tornadoes it’s what, a test of faith?
They reach for whatever fits their narrative
