A post from Pizza Cake Comic
I’m not sure I understand. Are a lot of people afraid of butterflies?
You know, there’s genuinely a LOT less butterflies in my life nowadays.
A good chunk of that is probably the fact that I moved from the country to the cities, but man, I see much fewer butterflies. I could easily understand if you end up not seeing a butterfly in person until you’re 17, I can see that being spooky. They’re spiders with wings, they’re moths but skinnier, like the Nightmare before Christmas.
If your kids grow up with an ipad, they try to touch every screen. I’ve seen multiple kids pantomime a phone not with a pinky and thumb, but a flat hand like a smartphone. Sheep aren’t scary but if you’ve never seen one in your entire life and get the chance to pet one you’re gonna be apprehensive, and you’re gonna be scared if one runs towards you without a fence between you and it.
Bugs are dying out worldwide. It’s a catastrophe we may need to deal with in our lifetime, but solving it probably affects our agricultural abilities so we’re sitting this one out until we can’t wait anymore.
I don’t think it’s a “kids these days” problem. We’ve had “city people” and “country people” for centuries. And of course kids won’t pantomime a phone as if they lived in the 1980s, flip phones have been dead for a decade when they were born.
As far as city people go, I’d much rather have the kids that take a step back from a sheep approaching than the people who go into a field to pet a bull. Most animals most people are going to encounter aren’t scary or aggressive, but you still have to respect them. There was an outcry a while ago about someone (who apparently has never interacted with a cow before) walking up to a cow to take a bunch of selfies and got themselves hurt. Lots of people wanted restrictions on where cows could graze rather than teaching people that you should maybe not treat an animal seven to ten times your weight as if it’s a cute kitten.
You’ve never seen children go ape shit over seeing a bug? Lol.
I have never seen anyone react with anything other than general passing interest towards a butterfly
what kind of kid doesn’t love butterflies?
also don’t teach your children to kill things they don’t like, ESPECIALLY when you’re a guest in their natural habitat. Killing bugs in your home is acceptable
The kids are NOT alright
bitchy parents lead to bitchy kids. I’ve never liked this comic or its creator
i know it’s just a comic, but if your child is actually whining about one of the most beautiful creatures on our planet, asking you to kill it for no reason, while sipping on soda, you have failed as a parent
I assume that’s the point of the final panel - her realization of that

Damn I kinda miss the edits these comics would get. The comics themselves are alright but the edit wars in the comments were hilarious. Hope the artist is getting less hate nowadays though
I find the art style and plain humor really enjoyable honestly. I can see why it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.
“Ah get it away!”
“It’s just a butterfly…”
“Is it poisonous?!”
“…Ay dios mio… No, it’s not poisonous, Hank!”
