So this is a concept that was running on reddit for a long time, I’ve even taken part in some other fediverse instances.

Feel free to share what you are doing, going trough or thinking about.

I have been busy this past week trying to de-USA as much as I can, moving things to EU-based services, buying only EU made products.

Gotten tickets for pukkelpop 2025 which is going to be my first festival since Covid hit us.

Hope we can get this community a bit more active in talk, I mainly see reposted articles from newssite.

Unite my fellow belgians!

Oh wow, interesting to see renewed Belgian interest here! Been using Lemmy since the Reddit exodus of 2023, but as expected most didn’t stick. It’s pretty calm here, but feel free to post more stuff here, it’s a bit more do-it-yourself since we’re only little.

Yeah I also folowed the black-out/exodus in 2023 but then it all slowly died of.

To be fair it took me far too long (even as an iT-guy) to figure out lemmy’s workings.

Upside is, people who are here, are really nice.

Will try to keep it active and post more.

I also hopped on the de-USA train. Breaking free from Google’s shackles will be the hardest, I think, but I’m making progress.

Then an hour ago I dropped my phone while filling up my car and the screen cracked. I bought it in November of last year. I’m fucking pissed, dude.

Google’s most difficult for me too, with the whole Android ecosystem and the fact that I can’t just ditch it since I need it for work. Most of the rest I got rid off a few years ago, but it’s a bit of a hassle.

Damn I feel you, that sucks. Depending on the brand it is hard or not that hard to replace a screen and might or might not break the bank.

For me it’s just youtube, the content there I can’t find or consume anotehr way and I barely watch shows and movies anymore. All the other google services I found nice alternatives to.

Well, i’m not from Belgium but i’m on the same page…

Also trying to de-USA as much as I can

Set up a lab machine to learn about the fediverse instances (considering to run one myself)

Running multiple labs with SDN in proxmox because … who doesn’t wanna leave VMware behind since broadcom bought it and started to remodel licenses. (come to think of it, USA seems to be heavily into self destruction)

Did a quick first check and some cleaning of my 🐝 beehives 🐝 after the winter, and i’m very happy to announce all colonies have survived

Ooh so sweet, very glad the beehives are doing fine. We all can use more bees, I’m thinking of taking a patch of grass away and spread bee friendly flowers for them.

It is totally crazy, I was impressed by how much I already used EU-services. But also how totally controlled you can be due to USA-services. I can get rid of almost everything but YouTube has no viable alternative that is as popular so it’s my one thing I’ll keep till I find better.

I also run a homeserver with proxmox, it’s so much easier than reinstalling OS’s all the time. I run *arr stack, Home Assistant and rclone to backup anything to cloud. I used to have 3 NUC’s and play around, but since I used my old gaming tower as a proxmox server I haven’t needed to do it again.

Waiting for Proximus (and thus being able to mobile viking fiber) to place fiber in our forgotten region so I can bump those numbers up.

Thanks for taking the time to answer

taking a patch of grass away No need for that. Just stop mowing. That’s it. You’ll be amazed (well, maybe not the first year) what will grow and blossom. Usually something different each year
