I have five credits on audible and looking to discontinue the service since I don’t use it too much (believe I lose the credits if I haven’t spent them when I discontinue). Looking for some recs to spend my five on before I discontinue. I’m open to anything except straight up school textbooks/self-help/religion and political guides/so much porn uptime headphones are absolutely required in a house with other people lol.
Rn my library is The Martian and Project Hail Mary, some He Who Fights With Monsters, American Gods, some The Hangman’s Daughter and The Faithful Executioner. My non-audible libraries cover a wide range like a history of Charlie Chaplain fighting spiritualists, Greek BC city state warfare, Star Trek novels, The Princess Diaries and Percy Jackson series, Andrew Lang’s fairy books, Water Margin, Altered Carbon, etc so really wide open to suggestions from across the board.
I’m in the same boat (audible credits, want to snag something, and close it down). Getting good suggestions here. Personally, more into non-fiction and historical biographies.
But you might want to download your audible books before shutting down the service. Not sure they’ll be accessible once the subscription is cancelled.
Have heard good things about: https://getlibation.com/ More options: https://github.com/rmcrackan/AudiobookHub
They are definitely accessible after canceling.
Dungeon Crawler Carl has been a great time just finishing book 5
Mistborn
Kings of the Wyld
Leviathan Wakes
The Palace Job
And a few more recs, though if you like mistborn and want more the cosmere can consume all your credits for your easy. xD
Thank you! Only ones I’ve heard of on this are Dungeon Crawler and Mistborn, really appreciate the expansion. I have enjoyed a few Sanderson one offs, but tbh never jumped into any of his series just cause he’s felt so prolific it felt like I was so far behind lol. Might be time to take the plunge.
Sanderson is worth it imo, stormlight is my favorite but mistborn is easier to get into. But soundboard theater does an extremely good job with dungeon crawler carl.
Have a look at Neil Stephenson, especially Snow Crash and Zodiac. But he has written a number of good books.
Oh thank you! A new author to me which is great, I love branching out and the titles sound great already. Appreciate the help!
I did the same thing you are doing a couple months back. I wasn’t using it but got tired of eating the additional charge each month and had accumulated several credits.
I actually got several of the books you mentioned. A few of the others I grabbed were the original Dune series (Frank Herbert not the ones by his son), The Three Body Problem series, The Sandman, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Good Omens, Being Henry
Yeah, I really wish you could just do an indefinite pause. I wanted to cancel last summer cause I found the We’re Alive podcast and got the “you’ll lose all your credits, but we’ll give you 3 months at $5 a month” message. Took me like three months to get through We’re Alive lol, swapped to Hangman’s Daughter and then found Behind the Bastards, right back where I started 🙃
But thank you for the suggestions! Definitely seems we align lol I have paper Hitchhikers and Good Omens, hadn’t thought of getting them on audiobook before even though I love them, my inner reading “voice” isn’t much better than text-to-speech tbh so that’s some great suggestions. Haven’t heard of the others except Dune (cause my dad loved the 80s(?) movie lol) so I really appreciate it!
Dungeon Crawler Carl?
Thanks! Think when I picked up He Who Fights With Monsters it was between the two and someone told me to go with He Who Fights, had totally forgotten about Dungeon Crawler! I’ll go back to it : )
Monsters is quite good too. I would of said that but you already had it in your list.
Yeah I’ve def enjoyed it! I have up through vol 9 I think just got a bit burnt out cause I was absolutely obsessed like jan-june last year lol. I’ll definitely get back to it, but tbh probably not on audible. I found the Behind the Bastards podcast recently and been going through it so I don’t really like how audible makes me keep subbing just to not lose credits I already bought :/
