There’s no guarantee @brave@fosstodon.org will support Manifest V2 after Google drops it in Chromium (which it already did I think?).
If you really want Manifest V2, use @firefox (or a fork) where its being maintained officially.
#browserextensions #manifestv2 #chromium #firefox #bravebrowser
I don’t think the choice is that hard. If you aren’t on Apple then there are only two browsers. Chromium based and Gecko based.
Chromium is huge and every major browser except Firefox uses it. It’s a big no from me to support a monopoly.
Firefox might be dodgy with data. So we don’t want to give them any.
So the only real choice is to use a firefox fork, of which there are several good ones.
@Dave Yeah, I’m currently on @librewolf, but I fear for the future of all Gecko based browsers as well if #Mozilla fails. Development and support might not completely die, but it at least will be slow and lacking new features at best.
Keeping browsers secure is hard work and Firefox has failed to get major revenue streams other than Google paying for it. If Firefox dies it will probably have a community rally around it but it’s unlikely they could keep up indefinitely.
But avoiding using Firefox might help them understand that users want to use Firefox to avoid having their data sold. If we wanted to be the product we would use Chrome.
