I should’ve deleted my account when I switched to lemm.ee to begin with. I’m glad it’s over and I hope you’re all enjoying this site more! I feel relief. Wanted to see how others are adapting to being on lemm.ee instead of reddit?

I just abandoned my Reddit account. Now it serves as a tombstone for what Reddit once was, for all to see. It had activity almost every day for a decade, and then it just suddenly stops, with one last post saying that in light of the API disaster, I’ve moved to Lemmy and Mastodon.

Some people reported that their accounts magically showed up again undeleted after a week or so. No confirmation, just saw a post some time after the blackout started. So beware to check after some time.

This is the only reason I’ve kept my accounts up. I have a script that undeletes any comments that resurface, and a cron job that runs that script at regular intervals. I don’t know if any comments remain. Reddit says there are none remaining, but I don’t trust them. However, I can’t find any of my comments (same username here as in Reddit) out there through a web search so, I guess it works?

If an instance decides to show ads, I’ll just block that instance. If it’s mine, I’ll move to a different instance. If the Lemmy devs decide to add ads, I’ll just switch to kbin. I highly doubt most instances will adopt ads though.
