I don’t troll. At all. What I do is post various comments encouraging a community to not get angry as hell about a change but to make the best out of it. That’s what happened when 196 decided to port over from blahaj.zone to lemmy.world. I made a bunch of fairly long comments that were talking about how people shouldn’t be angry and just leaving toxic comments but fueling a better community, whether that be here or elsewhere. Comments went fairly well and all was fine and left up for a while but a couple of days after being posted they were removed along with everything else that I had posted to that community. The mods list the reason in the modlog for my permanent ban as “trolling”. There are many things I do, but trolling isn’t one of them. Especially when the comment sections are left in a state here showing that I wasn’t trolling.
I went through everything that I did with that community and cannot find a singular thing with the exception of a memory.
I had posted a meme a couple of weeks ago. I don’t remember exactly what it was but I remember a moderator saying on it an hour or two after posting that it should be marked as NSFW. I disagreed with this assessment. I left a comment in response saying that I disagreed that it should be marked and that I would refuse to mark it as NSFW. However, I also respect that it is their community and their rules so I settled for something different. I didn’t add an NSFW tag, I just deleted it wholesale. I didn’t want to add a tag to something that I didn’t feel was applicable and instead of having to sit with that tag on the post, I just deleted the post entirely.
So this only leaves two options from the mods of 196.
Either they banned me for posting comments that were supportive of the community itself and not directly supportive of them or they banned me for deleting a post.
In either case? The moderators of !196@lemmy.world are no better than reddit moderators who just lash out for their own ego. Blanket bans for disagreements.
And perhaps unsurprisingly and perfectly fitting of every single accusation that has been levied so far against them and their abusive practices, the last moderator to interact with me was @moss@lemmy.world.
I find it fucking hysterical how the mods over there are so vehemently Anti-Trump (and should be given the userbase and content) but act no better than someone in his administration.
Edit: I found the post about it being NSFW after going through Moss’ profile but unsurprisingly Moss had to go ahead and suppress my comment there as well. It’s remarkable how much of their profile is just whining about being treated unfairly while they’re going ahead and treating people unfairly. But of course, Moss (being a redditor) had to go ahead and downvote before the removal of the post. Fragile… jesus.
As for how I feel it should be remedied, Moss should step down or at least be removed as a mod on Lemmy.world. They’ve done nothing for the community that hasn’t been insanely divisive as of late. They seem to be remarkably tonedeaf and just openly abusing their position.
Update
@Kolanaki@pawb.social went to the community and straight up asked why I was banned. For the record I didn’t ask for this or anything and was completely blindsided when I got a notification in my inbox. But a mod over there did respond with this:
So I’m unbanned from the community because a mod could find no reason that made sense why I was banned.
Tell me how that doesn’t unilaterally prove that Moss was indeed just banning people over petty ass reasons?
The deciding factor was the number of admins. I was getting bombarded with harassment from the admins of Startrek.website from the second I left the website. When I set up the first StarTrekMemes shitty one, a precusor to TenForward, it was done out of haste. After that, I started dealing with what ValueSubtracted was throwing at me harassment wise. I was in conversation at that point with a couple of admins from Lemmy.world who were getting borderline harassed by ValueSubtracted themselves. Lemmy.world had more admins to be able to ‘spread that across’. I didn’t want to overload @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com with a mountain of hostile nonsense from a bunch of children. I knew VS was going to do his petty shit no matter what unless I just deleted my account entirely. I refused to let that pissbaby win but I wanted to do it in a way that caused the least amount of damage possible.
That’s… messed up. How is that instance still online after this?
Oh it was insanely messed up. When TenForward was finally up and running and things going smoothly, they then started going after the admins of my fucking mastodon account. Was at that point the harassment got to such an insane extent that I finally made it public. They went into a fucking panic. I made the post here. Both admins from StarTrek.website had to come over and try to lie using secondary accounts to try and cover their tracks but were repeatedly called out and pointed out to be alts. ValueSubtracted and Corgana then both started abusing the report function to report anyone who even talked about the situation as well as my post itself. Admins had to ask me what was going on because they started saying I was trying to cause an “inter-instance war”.
It is perhaps a surprise to absolutely no one that Corgana (otherwise known as SysAdmin) and ValueSubtracted, the two admins of Startrek.website, are also the two who ran /r/StarTrek into the fucking ground and forced the opening of several other Star Trek subreddits to escape them.
If you’re at all curious about the shit that happened, the post is here and goes into a lot of detail. I use as many screenshots as humanly possible because I didn’t want them, in any way, being able to claim that I was lying. Funnily enough? They never did. They just made every other complaint under the sun.
As for how it is online? They banned me and even banned people who were talking about what happened to me. They openly censored shit on their instance to make sure no one who was only on ST.W knew what they did. At this point they’re just openly taking peoples money from Patreon and more than likely feeding off of the extra while putting the bare minimum into upkeep. They constantly had development problems when I was on there. I was even asking admins of lemmy.world questions to help admins of Startrek.website.
The whole instance is a wash.
It definitely took me a while to catch on. As you laid out, all by design. I eventually got suspicious enough to browse from another instance (possibly my old kbin account, I don’t remember if social was dead by then but it was definitely having issues) only to see the metric shitton of shenanigans. Moved my account to slrpnk the same day.
They’re insidious and horrific pieces of shit. Something I stand by considering they harassed me across multiple fuckin websites. I feel justifed in saying that when I have the bloody screenshots. If they did that in person I’d have been able to get a bloody restraining order.
They claim to be Star Trek fans but clearly modeled themselves after Gul Dukat. They lack a spine and any strength of character.
It’s funny. So many people will rail against Trump but act just like him. Don’t understand it at all.
I hate when this shit happens to good peeps who do so much to contribute to the threadiverse. I’m glad you had thick enough skin to handle it instead of going away!
I was raised by a monster of a human being who genuinely reminds me of Trump. The admins of Startrek.website had no chance to ever make a dent. They were basically a bunch of twinks arriving in LA saying “Hollywood can’t handle us” as if Hollywood doesn’t have a convertible full of twinks with 18 bottles of Rush blasting Dua Lipa down Sunset every 10 fucking seconds.
You can’t trick me, I’ve seen that meme before!
seriously though, abused childhoods with inch-thick-skin represent!
I didn’t have the patience to go find the meme itself in my giant folder lol
HELL YES! TRAUMA FOR THE WIN.
Not something I’ve ever said before.
Oh that reminds me, there’s an AI sorting thingy somewhere for memes, which goes through such folders and categorizes them so one can search them effectively.
Also impressive that typing out the meme from memory was less effort than finding it in your folder :D
Oh I would never be able to trust that AI thing to get it right for me. I’m too specific. That and I actually enjoy sorting the memes. Gives my autism a little scratch because I’m doing a task and putting the things in the right boxes. I love that kinda stuff. Honestly sometimes I think I only post memes as a way to justify having to sort more out of my unsorted folder.
