Funny how car radios aren’t a thing any more. Another victim of the smart phone. I don’t even use the speakers because my headphones are far better at sound reproduction and they cancel 90% of the noise. It’s blissfully quiet, I can hear everything they say in the podcast. My only gripe is that my passenger accuse me of being anti social.

You really shouldn’t be using headphones while driving. It’s extremely important for everyone’s safety for you to be able to hear horns directed at you, to hear ambulances, and to hear pedestrians. Wearing headphones makes you an inattentive driver putting people at risk.

I’m not at all sure that is true. Are you saying deaf people are not allowed to drive? That’s not the case in my jurisdiction. Car makers expend a great deal of effort making car interiors quieter. BMW are notable for deploying active noise cancelling technology in their vehicles. The interiors of Rolls Royce are some of the quietest in the business. Should they make them noisy because you want to hear some angry halfwit honking his horn? Perhaps you should try some noise cancelling technology. It doesn’t suppress sirens and other unpredictable frequencies, particularly in the higher ranges. Noise is known to increase fatigue and make driving generally less pleasant.

If I want to connect with my environment I will walk or cycle. Perfect 360 vision, unparalleled audibility of surroundings. Unfortunately it’s not very safe due to all the moronic car drivers sitting in their noisy boxes of steel.
