As I was looking at a local municipality’s “Community Strategic Plan”, they listed some “Top Achievements” for the previous year.

Among them was “Increased bike lanes by 1.01km in 2023.”

I mean, seriously? A whole kilometre that was split between two different projects?! /s

Anyone else feel like their municipality is simply doing the bare minimum for cyclists so they can pat themselves on the back?

I looked into the location of this 1km bike lane (again, split between two different projects in different areas). One is at least connected to existing cycling infrastructure.

The other quite literally leads you to/from a very dangerous main road with no cycling infrastrure to another dangerous road with no cycling infrastructure 🫠

But yes, our bike lanes are generally just paint to make it easier for motorists to know where they shouldn’t be parking (but still do).
