Summary

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal bishop at the Washington National Cathedral, directly confronted Donald Trump during his inaugural prayer service, urging him to show compassion for marginalized groups.

She criticized his policies on LGBTQ rights, mass deportations, and immigration, calling for mercy toward undocumented immigrants and children fearing family separation.

Trump dismissed the sermon as “not too exciting,” while his supporters condemned Budde’s remarks as inappropriate.

Budde’s bold address marked the first public challenge to Trump’s agenda during his second term.

Episcopalians are wildly progressive compared to other American Protestants. It’s very much come as you are.

It used to be widespread, but for some reason the reactionary, hate-filled stuff has been gaining in popularity at the expense of more open-minded Christianity for decades now, and especially in the USA. Where I live the majority of churches are covered with rainbow flags and “everyone welcome here” signs. But more and more people are going to megachurches where they play shit music and preach hatred.

It’s easier to tear apart if you just go by the things they all agree with, the Bible, the shit they do and believe that isn’t in the Bible or historical record at all. Christians that believe in equality and helping people, that think the Bible is just a story and a way to live life, I don’t try to argue with them because they’re not hurting anyone based on their beliefs. But if they hold harmful religious beliefs, I’ll give them grief about it and tear holes in everything they believe.

Different denominations have different views. The Episcopal Church if the USA is very progressive in its current form. Two presiding bishops ago there was a woman in charge.
