Recently was gifted an American Boy hand plane from my Dad. He said it was originally my great-grandfather’s.

I was once given a couple of hand planes, and instead of restoring them I gave them to a woodworker who worked for the same company, thinking “When am I ever going to use a hand plane?”.

Turns out about one a week I was borrowing one from him. They’re super tools to have!

Sweet! Looks great. Now I feel inspired to look again at my grandpa’s old plane that’s tucked away in the workshop somewhere. Is it hard to find new blades?

Any particular challenges with fixing it up?

No big challenge. I soaked it in vinegar for 4 hours then used a wire wheel on a Dremel to clean it up. I was able to use the existing blade, just needed sharpened, so I don’t know about that.
