Trump got up in front of crowds and proclaimed that he was going to leave abortion to the states and people believed him. He never had to take a hard stand one way or another, because his base could just wink-nod and know they could trust him, while the rank-and-file voter stayed fixated on immigration, transgender athletes in sports, and lackluster economic conditions.

Unlike with the Bush “Defense of Marriage Act” measures in 2004, the abortion rights amendments didn’t function as a GOTV tool for liberals nearly as much as it served as an escape hatch for conservatives. Vote for Trump AND get your abortions guaranteed under law.

the ‘states rights’ republicants gonna pass a federal ban anyway.

And blue states will faithfully enforce it, while insisting there’s nothing they can do to stop Republicans.

This, while AGs in red states have been fighting policies by Biden, Obama, and Clinton tooth-and-nail for decades to the delight of their constituents.

To be fair, Florida almost passed it with 57%. The only reason it didn’t pass was because Florida requires a 60% majority to pass a measure.

This is statistically in line with every other state that passed a similar measure.

It sucks it didn’t happen, but that is still an incredible display of progress in Florida.

To think that a Democrat (Gillum, and not even white!) was within 0.5% of governing and deleting Desantis not that long ago in the “swing state”… It’s unbelievable how quickly the maga cult has polarized and zombified so many people.
