Nintendo is the Apple of video games, people keep buying because of the brand and nothing else. They could package a bag of rocks with their logo on it and people would buy it in droves.

How many? The Wii was a runaway success because it was innovative and allowed casual family members to participate comfortably while also being active.

The Wii U didn’t sell anything because it wasn’t.

The Switch was a runaway success because it was the first handhold capable of playing real console tier games. It couldn’t quite manage the cutting edge, but it brought a lot of shit to handheld that wasn’t available before.

The brand name plays a role for parents looking for gaming for their super young kids, but it’s not why their successful devices have succeeded.

I do think Nintendo sales have a lot to do with nostalgia but they also make great and unique games you can’t really get anywhere else. With that said they are pretty anti-consumer so I don’t have any qualms if someone pirates and emulates these games.

Literally everybody in my friend group hates Nintendo. I think all of us own a switch and always will buy Nintendo games. Mario is one of the best platformer franchises, Zelda one of the best RPGs. Hard to replace their consistent high quality franchises, even if we know the company is shit.

Not trying to argue that, “RPG” is one of the worst defined genres and I don’t really care what you categorize it as, my point is that Zelda games are pretty consistently great, unique, and have pushed the envelope for decades, much like most other 1p Nintendo games
