I had a micro SD card slotted into a carrying spot and the little section at the end with the lip to pull it out of its slot snapped off.
Does anyone know if they still work at that point, or do the electronics go all the way to the end?
Tried to upload a photo, but was running into issues.
Looking at an x-ray photo of an SD card it doesn’t look good… You could always try it as long as you have a way to pop it out. Or maybe in another reader?
Wow, they really pack that stuff in there. Truly is amazing that such a tiny little piece of tech is hundreds of MB!
I’ll try it in a normal-sized SD carrier card, but I think it’s probably toast.
Thanks for those images, super cool!
I wouldn’t risk it in anything expensive. Get a card reader that leaves the micro SD sticking out a bit, and try accessing it with that. At least then if it jams, it’s only the cheap reader that you’ve lost.
Good call. Going to try with the expansion card thing it came with
For the record, it’s toast.
It gets recognized by my computer as something, but it can’t read the drive and it is unable to be reformatted or anything.
Bummer, but lesson learned. If anyone out there has a Deckmate, be careful with putting the SD cards in the slots and then having it in the steam carry case.
On a big SD card - 100s of Gbs like you’d use in a Deck - the silicon will go very close to the edge.
Even if it didn’t though, the force put into the card might have flexed other bits and broken them.
Looks like if you are lucky it might still be usable according to this diagram
I suppose there’s no harm in trying to seal it up and give it a whirl
