    love John Mulaney

He also thanked the crowd for fundamentally changing the world for his almost three-year-old son, ensuring that he “will never talk to an actual human again.”

“Instead, a little cartoon Einstein will pop up and give him a sort of good answer and probably refer him to another chatbot,” Mulaney told audiences, referring to the fact that chatbots still have a strong tendency to “hallucinate” facts.

Can’t agree. He’s funny, sure, but he’s also a gigantic piece of human trash on a personal level. I really liked his old bits where he talked about being with his wife and how she stuck with him through his addictions and alcoholism, then he turns around during the pandemic, relapses, dumps his wife, and remarried some lady he met in rehab. Guy is a walking talking contradiction between fantastic stage presence and being a human garbage patch as a person.

        “Some lady”.

No, he’s been quite clear that Olivia Munn was there at some crucial times for him.

I don’t know anything about the relationship with his first wife, but shit happens and calling Olivia Munn some lady from rehab really undersells it.

Oh, Olivia Munn is the “rehab lady”? Makes sense why he said it was an “upgrade” now lol

Emotional abuse can be worse than physical abuse in some aspects. I just find it extra disgusting to use anecdotes from a life lived with his wife to rise to fame only to dump her when he finds an upgrade.

You don’t know the guy. You don’t know the particulars. This is a parasocial relationship.

I also liked him and was shocked to hear about all of that. But I also know that it’s his business, and not mine. He could be a shit, or it could be something different entirely.

I don’t have any idea if there was emotional abuse, but the way it was portrayed in the comments above made it seem like a messy divorce but nothing to imply abuse of any sort. And some rehab chick doesn’t sound like an “upgrade”

A relapsing addict doesn’t unilaterally decide to check themselves into rehab. The first step to recovery is admitting the problem, which pretty concretely confirms there were problems. And you don’t grab “some rehab chick” from a fancy $100k a trip celebrity rehab facility. You find a pretty gold digger.

Ok, but does this justify calling him “human trash”? I usually reserve that phrase for disgusting criminals, not womanizing drug addicts.

I’m really struggling to understand why you’re going out of your way to defend such a sleazy hypocrite. Do you have some personal stake in supporting dogshit behavior from people in the public eye?

I’d admit that he had more of a wholesome thing going on in his early career, but that’s a road well traveled in the entertainment industry (there are various examples of this ranging from other comics like George Carlin to bands like the Beatles and pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift). People change over time and with fame and which parts of their personality they expose to an audience also change.

You do realize that you can appreciate someone’s talent separately from their personal life, right? Like 80% of actors, sports players, and other celebrities are pieces of shit. If I had to avoid all their stuff then I’d have to avoid watching sports or movies or tv. I’d have nothing to do… Pick your battles, ya know?

Don’t even get me started on stuff company CEOs say…I wouldn’t be able to shop for fucking groceries if I cared what the store chain executives say.

        Ya gotta be realistic here.

I don’t know him on a personal level, so I can’t comment well on that; I’m sorry your friend causes you stress and I hope you can resolve that.

But relationships are tricky, and sometimes the thing that breaks them is subtle. Please don’t judge him on his personal failings as he has found a way to talk through them while he’s making money.

You’d know from knowing him, personally, but a disproportionately large number of stage performers suffer from all manner of light character glitches, and if we were flawless ourselves we’d have an easy time pointing them out.

I’m glad you’re there for your personal friend. I hope he can come to terms and deal with the stress he’s caused his ex-wife, before and now, and ultimately get to where you, his wife, and even he himself, can forgive him. Personally.
