Economists who want to use the platform to discuss economist topics? Why should public figures hide their identity on all their accounts?

Because the internet is not your friend and something exactly like this will happen. Then someone will take something you said totally out of context to try to get you canceled.

Most people never worry a moment about your culture war “cancelling” bullshit. It’s not a real thing. It’s actually called, “bearing the consequences of your choices,” but that’s not pithy enough for the knuckle draggers to hoot.

Actual academic researchers put their names on things. They don’t publish papers as “Fartknocker-555431”. If you’re going to make meaningful contributions to science and culture, you have to do it using an actual identity. Even if it risks getting “cancelled”. Because scientists are fucking chads and don’t have time for your culture war bullshit.

Apparently you’re not aware that science is in a deep crisis right now on several fronts in part because academic researchers know full well they have to give the “right” results in order to advance their careers.

People with nothing to hide? ::duckingandrunning::

But seriously, excellent question. I certainly don’t post anything even remotely controversial from an account with my real name.
