Lemmy is great! Oh no, Lemmy.world is down again, I’ll just use my Aussie.zone account and I can post here. Way better than reddit outages.

Oh no. I think that was my fault. I was looking at a sub over there and I think my monster might have got into their system.

Haha. I had my own Lemmy server until 2 days ago but the database got to 40GB and I realised that if I wanted to keep it going I would have to pay $60/month for a dedicated server and even then in a year it would get worse. Considering it was just for me I went back to public servers.

The funny part is I used the domain I purchased which was Lemmy.fail

        It lived up to expectations.

Ouch. I think that’s more than Aussie.zone is costing (although the costs do increase over time). Lodion did say recently that there were some changes made that led to the database not needing as much storage, so I think how it is set up makes a difference. I don’t really understand the details, but there is lots of info in the Meta community about what’s happening behind the scenes. Much more economical to have an account here and throw Lodion some money occassionally to sort out those sort of complicated things.

Exactly. I did a dumb thing and ran a script to subscribe to the top 50 Lemmy subs from all instances and it skyrocket from 15gb or so to way too much.
