We somehow went our entire lives without realizing that the OTHER man in black, Glenn Danzig, wrote Johnny Cash's phenomenal 'Thirteen.' Here's the story of how the unconventional artistic partnership came to be.
I like the NIN version of hurt, but I love the Johnny Cash version. It’s just resonates so much better with me.
There was apparently a lot of shit going on in Johnny Cash’s life at the time too. He ultimately died 7 months after filming the music video and June died 3 months after he filmed the music video.
I don’t want to sound confrontational or like an asshole but they’re different. I mean, we’re blessed with both versions. Now that I know this, Danzig’s version actually holds more weight. I had no idea he wrote it for Cash. They tell different stories. Fucking cool.
I like both versions but I have to say I think Johnny did it better.
Same.
It also applies to “Hurt” originally by Trent Reznor.

Saddest music video of all time article
I do agree that his version of Hurt is fucking phenomenal!
Well, Reznor didn’t secretly write Hurt for JC. He released it on Downward Spiral in 94. JC just covered it. Same for Rusty Cage and Personal Jesus.
I addressed this statement:

Very fucking cool! No doubt! Glad to have both and they both have their place.
