Nobody knows in detail besides the union and the company. Reports just say the union is concerned over outside contractors and short term work. Sounds to me like they’re worried unionized workers will be replaced by non-unionized contractors.
Recently they rejected a tentative deal stating the terms were too rigid to abide by for 4 years and that the terms need to account for uncertainty in the future.
It’s more than that, they’re concerned (and rightfully so) that their jobs will be lost to automation. Automation as a technology is fantastic and can save humanity from labour, but we as a society/economy have no fucking clue how to handle it.
