Here I thought it was just because Robert Scoble keeps telling the world that it’s the next big thing that everyone wants…
presumably for targeting purposes, to creep into people’s minds for the ultimate manipulation of perception
I’ve wondered about this myself. I think they’re just looking for new frontiers of social experiences over the internet. We still don’t have good VR. When I tried it recently it was still jerky, low resolution, with uninteresting content and causing headaches after two mins. But these are all hardware issues and I expect that at some point the hardware will be good enough at a low enough cost to produce a decent user experience.
