One quake that’s not mentioned is the death of Jimmy Carter. If nothing else it will dominate the news for at least a week.

Really? A extremely old and frail man dies and it will dominate the news for a week? I predict 0.5-1 days of full headlines about it, the next day some memorials and tributes, third day maybe some deep dive analysis of his work and then not much until the funeral.

I’m, of course, talking out of ignorance. I’m not american and dont know much about Carter but based on how stuff went in my country when a old and beloved ex-president died, there was a few days of tributes etc. Then the funeral and thats it.

Have you ever seen what happens when a President dies? They make their own arrangements, and I’m sure that Jimmy’s will be modest, but he will lay in state somewhere, and then the funeral where traditionally all living presidents and their families will attend. Biden will speak. He is allowed to be buried in Arlington, but probably it will be Plains. He is the last President to serve in the military, so the Navy will do their bit. Blue Angeles and such. Full military honors. Foreign dignitaries will also represent. This all takes time.

Sure, but I wouldnt think it will dominate the news for that long. But like I said, I know nothing.
