I love seeing owls with different color plumage!

This owl is from Manitoba, so coming from a different climate, it has a different color than more southern GHOs.

There is such an endless variety of owls!

I got to hold, but not pet (😓) a Screech Owl this year, and I’ve handled a number of owl feather and wing samples. They are fluffy in a way, but there’s more ethereal than they look. If you’ve ever touched something like a duck or chicken, their feathers are much more rigid in comparison.

If feathers were ice cream, most birds would be like hard ice cream you let sit out a minute to scoop easier, and owls would be like soft serve. They’re just so much airier and delicate. It’s a wonder they can fly, but the extreme softness and flexibility of the feathers is what lets them fly so silently.
