Any games with animal people in it that you want to talk about? Either as a recommendation, or as a “look at this interesting thing”?

For me, I’ve been playing three games recently:

  • Tunic: An adorable zelda/soulslike hybrid that looks adorable. It also captures a unique sense of retro and nostalgia that I haven’t felt before. Would recommend, and worth going into it blind.
  • Super Lesbian Animal RPG: I know it’s not really aimed at me, but I’ve been enjoying it. It feels very genuine and doesn’t take itself too seriously. So far, anyway.
  • Friends vs Friends: An online arena shooter/deckbuilder game. Pretty fun, although I’m not good at it yet. Not yet sure how P2W it is though.

I played 7 Days to Die for a few hours and it’s basically edgy Minecraft.

I’m here for the Minecraft part, not so much the edgy. I didn’t realize - or maybe i forgot - how much i hate the post-apocalyptic visual style, and there’s a lot of ambient sound effects trying to scare you even though nothing’s happening. It’s by far my strongest feeling about the game, yet it’s not something that i can actually criticize them for because it’s a matter of taste.

But it is a vastly better survival game than Minecraft, the challenges are a lot more concrete and real, there’s a lot of thought put into cause/effect combinations, all while having Minecraft levels of freedom.

The early game is incredibly unforgiving, any random zombie is genuinely hard to take down with fists or starter weapons, starter tools are very bad at modifying the environment, food and water are scarce, and improving any of this is locked behind skill unlocks that i found really steep.

Between the visual style and the harshness of the start, i would have given up immediately if it weren’t for the fact that i always knew exactly what to do next, the progression is super clear. Also i didn’t (would never) buy the game at random, i did my research and i know for a fact that i’m going to enjoy the late game. Basically, if this game wasn’t in a post-apo zombie setting, it would be my favorite game.

As old as 7 Days to Die is, I keep seeing it mentioned here and there even today, so it must be pretty good. I love the survival genre so will have to add it to my list to try out sometime.

If you love the survival genre, and for the price, it’s a no-brainer.

Also this game has a huge modding and multiplayer scene that i haven’t touched on because i haven’t experienced it yet, i just booted a vanilla solo game
