Hey all, Moving and looking to get a little bit in to home theater. I’ve been going back and forth between the Denon AVR-1700h, the Yamaha RX-v6a. Are there other options I should be looking at?

I’d like it to be able to handle whole home audio. The SiriusXM on either of those is a big selling point for my wife. From what I’ve read the Denon is the more forum recommended, mostly because of Yamaha’s poor handling of a hardware fault, but those are mostly cleared up now. I like all the features of the Denon, but the Yamaha looks better and my lazy side likes the option for wireless surround eventually.

I keep looking at higher end systems but I’d need a really good reason to jump up with the price that comes with it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I was faced with a similar problem a while ago, and ended up getting a denon S930H. I love it, and think i made the right decision. I do wish i had gone with the higher end unit (for a bit more) for the higher quality audacity.

I cant speak much about yamaha, but personally would stay away from wireless audio. I’ve seen too many horror stories about the speakers dropping out, often because of something stupid like WiFi interfering.

Makes sense. Was the room correction really noticeable? Or even helpful? I keep finding mixed reviews ranging from it’ll only screw it up and I need to go back to school for and audio engineer degree to do it myself, or it’s the best ever, or DIRAC is the only worthwhile option because it’s not for poors.

I defiantly found that it added a more consistent sound, but cant say i did any kind of blind testing!

What’s your budget? I love my Denon X2700H (Although I’m starting to suspect it’s blowing out my subs(see my post on this topic)). Do you need multiple room control? AppleHome or any other smart stuff? What sort of TV is in the plan?

Budget is roughly $500 to around $1200. It’s pretty flexible if there’s a really good reason. I’m also saving budget for speakers but that’s a whole other thing.

TV is a 77inch LG G2. Multi room audio with Siriusxm is the biggest additional feature besides handling anything the TV can.

Welp, I’m gonna say go with the Denon X2700H (just like me). It’s a steal right now at Crutchfield, and the only advantage the new X2800H has that I can see are two more 8K HDMI inputs (so, 3 vs 1), so you’ll need to decide if that’s important to you. Compared to the S970H, it has more power, a better warranty, pre-amp multi-room support, and a bunch of cool “legacy” features that have clearly been phased out of the newer models; but who knows? They might come in handy. I also have the 77 LG C2, and it’s a dynamite combo.

I don’t understand how the Denon can do whole home audio. You mean it has multi zone support ?
