Just a general thread about running. How’s your running going? What are you training for? Did you get new shoes? Sporting an injury etc.

I’m probably an outlier. Nothing at all. My brain is busy mapping out the route ahead of me. Tracking pace, hr, reminding myself when it gets hard that I’ve done it before.

Taking in the environment: cars, other people, wildlife, trees, the sky, etc.

Mulling over the previous days events, planning the next day, theres a bunch of stuff that occupies my mind.

I did find a good podcast to listen to recently and so have given that a go.

I’m the same way. I used to run with music, but I found that I’d subconsciously adjust my pace to the beat and it would constantly throw off my rhythm.

I like just being lost in thought and enjoying the scenery when running. I find it very meditative.

I DJ so have recorded a few sets at my ideal running pace (around 176 BPM) that help a lot with my breathing and cadence when I start to tire. I get where you’re coming from with unmixed, varied playlists though. I would rather run without any music (which I do for training runs) than run with varied BPMs and gaps in playback.

Yeah, that’s too much effort for me and I would just be using a generated playlist. I’m an ex competitive XC/Track runner and you had to learn to run effectively without music because that was what the race environment would be.

I’m working towards that I think. I’ve done a trail run or two expecting to have music but my headphones haven’t worked, so just had the sound of my footsteps and nature - was just as you say, very meditative… Currently using a 150bpm playlist though to get to a consistent rhythm. So hopefully that’ll build and I can start running free of music.
