NHTSA said on Friday the original investigation into the Autopilot system was opened to see if the system contained a defect that “created an unreasonable risk” to vehicle safety, adding that it found similar findings with Tesla’s voluntary recall.
Calling it Autopilot creates an unreasonable risk. Because plenty of people will believe it is an autopilot since that’s what it’s called.
It’s just plain old false advertising. Why is the FTC not on top of that shit?

Eh. You still have to keep an eye on autopilot. It’s not a fully automated thing. There are other reasons it should not be called autopilot: it requires much more attention than autopilot and you are also not flying the car like a pilot does a plane. We don’t have flying cars yet.
Are you talking about what ‘autopilot’ on an airplane actually does or what people think ‘autopilot’ means? Because when someone says, “I’m running on autopilot,” they mean that they aren’t paying attention to anything and just doing things automatically. And that’s what a lot of people think Tesla means when they call their system Autopilot. They think it means you don’t have to pay attention. On top of that, Tesla has another feature you can pay for called “Full Self Driving” which also requires you to pay attention at all times because it goes wrong. A lot. It even went wrong for Elon and he almost crashed.
This is a huge problem.
