I’d guess because of the dynamics of Australia, whereas else where people are more spread out we all live largely in 2-5 cities. Melbourne is over 5 million people and the largest city in Australia. We can all gather and talk about the same place and things. We also speak English so others internationally can engage more easily with our community. Oh and both work, but we generally use Melbournians.
