I finally upgraded from a G27 to a CSL DD. Wow what an upgrade. If you’re on the fence - do it. You feel so much more of what’s happening on the road. Instantly became more consistent and a tiny bit faster.

I too am really excited and on the fence right now. Only thing holding me back is the uncertainty of driver stuff regarding linux. I am using the G29 as of now and am looking at the ready to race bundle from fanatec - has anyone here any experience with fanatec drivers under arch/manjaro linux?

I’m assuming you know about https://github.com/gotzl/hid-fanatecff ? That’s the one that’s mentioned by the oversteer dev https://github.com/berarma/oversteer. I don’t personally have experience with it as I use a t300rs currently, but I’ve been keeping an eye open for a used Fanatec wheelbase that’s on that list since it would be nice to try to contribute to the project if I can.

My experience digging into the tmff2 driver is that very few games actually support all the effects that the wheel does so the “feel” tends to be pretty much the same even if not every effect is supported. That said the issues I’ve faced are nearly all proton related and more often with my pedals like here than anything else.

I do know about the fanatecff repo, yes. I just never had the chance to try it and have heard different views and reports.

Thanks for the link about the problems with the pedals - good read

Hey, did you ever try this? I’m in the exact same boat - been running a G29 for quite some time and looking to upgrade…

I actually bought into the fanatec bundle a couple months ago, yea. The basic functionality worked, but I must say that the feeling of the force feedback felt off under Linux - hard to describe though. I feel bad to say this, but simracing is the only reason for me to have a dual booted windows workstation for now :(

All the cool hard- and software stuff that I was missing out, left me longing for windows compatability.

You could definitely give it a try though. Like I said, most of it was and is already there in form of these drivers: https://github.com/gotzl/hid-fanatecff

Thank you so much! This is actually exactly what I was afraid of - and knowing myself, I’ll barely ever use the wheel if I have to reboot into Windows for it…guess I’ll stick with my trusty G29 for a little longer. Hope the Fanatec stuff is going to mature a bit in in the future - the Github repo does seem to be pretty active, so let’s see :)

Sorry I can’t say that I do. I haven’t tried the switch to Linux on my gaming machine yet.

I keep hearing good things - but to be honest I just don’t want to tweak things. I just want to play.

I can totally relate. I must say though that the experience with the Logitech stuff was pretty easy and plug and play for the most part. Even more stable than windows in this regard

I did find some threads talking about driver stuff but each is several years old. The git repo hasn’t been updated in a while, too. So here I am. But thanks for the hint - any help is much appreciated
