So I guess today they’ll pass the entire userbase of the fediverse.
Expected, but it’ll sure be Interesting Times watching the division this will cause with server de-federations.

Oh well.

They must be re-using their Instragram user database for Threads. Otherwise a statement like this makes no sense:

In a ‘Supplemental Privacy Policy,’ Meta explains: “You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.” The rationale, Meta elaborates on the policy page, is that a Threads profile is part of the user’s Instagram account.

Yeah, I think everyone on Insta gets a single-sign on to Threads. And you can’t delete Threads without also deleting your Insta (lol).
But I think they actually have to choose to activate it before they appear as users. Otherwise Threads would have had 1.2bn users “signed up” from the start.

No. Instagram has over a billion users (maybe 2 billion at this point). Threads “only” has 10 million. They’ve just made it really easy to sign up from your Instagram account.
