Well, it’s a plain, white dinner plate with no obvious lip but rather a shallow curve from the bowl to the rim. Looks mass-produced and fairly cheap. Some scratch marks are visible, making me wonder if it’s actually a reusable plastic plate rather than ceramic.

I know it’s not the point of rate my plate, but this picture made me hungry

I don’t think we’re at the stage to be handing out numbers here, but I think you could improve your score with the following:

    • You’re using two colours of cheese - this is great - but why no picture or pattern? A simple quartering of yellow and orange squares would help - or if you’re feeling adventurous, a little house, heart, pacman, face of Christ etc.
    • The cheese is only partially melted. If you have access to a grill, you might want to leave it under a bit, until it begins to bubble.
    • There’s not enough of it. You know why toasters have two slots in them? You should always eat toast in sets of two.
    • This may be controversial, depending on where you live, but to my mind the brown lumpy stuff ruins the purity of the cheese on toast. With the exception of butter, which is a structural glue, and can be considered part of the toast, “cheese on toast” should be both the title of the meal, and the list of ingredients.

Wow. I don’t have time for a detailed reply right now and there are parts I agree with. However…(!) Butter is completely unnecessary and undesirable for cheese on toast. If your toast needs extra grease then you’ve not applied enough cheese.

(Might go for Jesus next time, or battenburg is it cake style).

Yeah, you’re probably right about the butter. Additional cheese could do the job better.

        I’d mark you 8/10 for a battenburg and 10/10 for a Cheesus Christ :)

Looks delicious, just not enough of it! Maybe that just says more about me though!

Also +1 for slicing the cheese and not grating it. I see so many people proudly showing off their cheese on toast attempts and they’ve grated the cheese, which just inevitably leaves gaps and ends up as a thin layer of cheese rather than a decent slab like you have here.

I personally prefer the pickle to be as part of the toast itself rather than a side.
