I’m already seeing a small but distressing increase in behaviors that are frankly embarrassing.
There’s no need to make what seems like an extra effort to treat each other poorly. Being “casually” antagonistic, dismissive, and instigatory for its own sake is miserably sad.
We don’t have to migrate the crummy reddit culture, too. Let’s leave it back on the dumpster fire?
the classic dilemma of drawing the line between free speech and anarchy. I’m not a fan of people being so toxic that something turns into a clique or some ‘holier than thou’ mentality, but moderating people to the degree of banning them for saying something you personally disagree with is also an issue. Regardless, this overall post is a plea, and a fraction of the community here will probably see it. Ultimately it’s up to all of us to decide for ourselves whether the moderation of any community is what it should be (subjectively), and to commit to ditching it if it isn’t.
And also, everyone needs to remember that mods are human volunteers and not employees. They have no power over you except that they can convince you to go to a different community to say what you want to say. If we all remember this, then the powermod issue goes away (or is minimized). Make peace with change.
