From Assiniboine Park & Zoo (Winnipeg)
This little Saw-whet owl just got a fresh start.
This owl was recently brought to the Wildlife Rescue and Drop-off Centre at the Zoo when a member of the public found it on the ground being attacked by birds. The Zoo veterinary team assessed its condition to ensure it was stable before transfer to our partners at Wildlife Haven.
Though initially disoriented, the owl was in good condition. Migration can be a tough journey, and sometimes birds just need a reset. The owl was safely released back to the wild!
If you find an owl that appears to be in distress, please call the Wildlife Haven intake line at 204-202-3806 for help determining whether it truly needs intervention. Sometimes young or resting owls can be mistaken for those in distress.
If the bird is injured, you can gently place it in a cardboard box in a safe, quiet location while waiting to speak with the Wildlife Haven team. Keep your distance and ensure pets and children are kept away for the owl’s safety.
The Wildlife Rescue and Drop-off Centre, located at the Assiniboine Park Zoo, provides a safe place where sick or injured wildlife can receive temporary care. We’re proud to play an important role in supporting wildlife in our community!

It’s so coooooooold
That is a high metal:owl ratio going on. No wonder it’s making such a face!
