Summary

Trump announced plans to fire FBI Director Christopher Wray and nominate Kash Patel, a longtime ally, as his replacement, pending Senate approval.

Patel, known for his roles in Trump’s first administration and his vocal defense of Jan. 6 rioters, has advocated for sweeping changes in the FBI and DOJ, including purging officials tied to investigations of Trump.

He has criticized the FBI as politically compromised and pledged to address issues like crime and border trafficking.

Democrats are expected to strongly oppose his nomination.

As strongly as they opposed the nomination of a convicted felon and traitor as president?

Congress cannot oppose the people’s choice in the Presidential Election. They only challenge the integrity of the election itself by refusing to certify the results.

Presidential nominations, however, need to be confirmed by the Senate. The Democratic-controlled Senate can continue to oppose until they lose majority.
