Animal raising is low in my priorities list as is but I have to ask: how important really is to fence in animals? Do they ruin crops, disappear or run away if not?
Grass under a fence doesn’t get eaten, giving you a spot where it will always regrow from. Fences decay and need to be replaced, though.
Lightning rods, on the other hand, do not decay, and a line of them can block animals, keep grass safe, and do their normal job of preventing lightning and producing batteries. If something needs a fence I generally make it out of lightning rods. If I’m low on the crafting ingredients, other decor things do the same job.

it looks pretty and helps keep your hogs from dropping truffles all over the place. It’s not vital.
Nah but it keeps any drops nearby and also they can’t eat the grass under the fence so it regrows easier.
Also prevents them from wandering somewhere else and getting in the way like any other NPC in town.
I do it for the grass thing, although I use non-fence stuff so it doesn’t decay. Lightning rods, for instance.
