Lol, I know this one’s technically not NSFW, but damn, the language on that one! 🤣

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•Music Monday [Week 15] - What have you been listening to lately?English
1·7 days agoWishing I had listened to Metric way more when I was younger. Catching up now.
Ive been running Linux for close to a decade now and one thing that I’ve noticed is rarely brought up in Linux circles is that Linux Kernel Development is heavily funded by major big tech corpos. Examples include Microsoft, Google, Oracle, and IBM.
There is a vested corporate interest in keeping Linux well maintained as it is the OS that underpins the vast majority of corporate server architecture and infrastructure.
I’m not saying Linux development wouldn’t exist without them, but imho, Linux certainly wouldn’t be as ubiquitous as it is today without this corporate backing. Thusly, it is worth noting that in many ways, we Linux users have not escaped corporate influence simply from switching from Windows or MacOS to Linux.
We’ve maybe lessened it to some degree, but to think we are somehow immune to the misguided mandates from state governments, like the latest recent age verification laws, is misguided.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those of you with a living room or multiple rooms; do you have a TV in your bedroom? Why or why not?
7·8 days agoNo TV at all, and no social media other than federated platforms and YouTube these days, and I only use alternative no algo clients for YouTube. If I hear about something to watch, I sail the high seas, find it, watch it. If I like it, it goes into my backups.
One of these days I might buy an old ass TV and set up a JellyFin server, but I’m fine with my 1080p monitor. I only watch like 2 shows at a time max, and keep up with like 5 or 6 YT channels. No time and no need for others.
Admittedly, my computer is in my bedroom though. I always have had my computer in my bedroom though, so that’s just a personal taste thing.

Invincible (show and comics)@lemmy.world•[DISCUSSION] Invincible - S4E5 - Give Us a MomentEnglish
2·12 days agoI’ve read the entire comic series and while I’ve got my criticisms of Kirkman and the comics, I gotta admit he knows how to write a compelling villain I want to see die.
It was nice to get to this point with Conquest finally biting it. The show didn’t shy away from the gruesome literal gut pulling either, I really didn’t think they were gonna go there.
Additionally, I could tell they had their A team on the animation for this one, all the characters stayed on model for the most part. The first fight with Conquest was animated better, but overall, I’m impressed. Well done.

Futurology@futurology.today•Inside the stealthy startup that pitched brainless human clones: The ultimate plan to live forever is a brand new body.English
101·14 days agoInteresting idea, but you’d have to solve the whole brain still going through the process of senescence problem. Essentially the brain is still deteriorating at the same rate and eventually dies from old age even if the body continues to sustain it. And of course, you’d have to figure out how to safely “hook up” the brain.
SciFi can be interesting, but the pursuit of immortality or even extensive longevity always seemed to me like a very very bad idea to me. I like living, I don’t like living enough to want to do it forever.

Nice try, but the legend of Windows 11 is just that, a legend…a story we tell young children when we want them to behave themselves… right?..
