Honestly, I’m disappointed that they stuck with relatively closely clustered stars for their constellations. I want constellations that contain anywhere from 2 adjacent stars representing the Trojan War to 46 stars spanning hemispheres representing a fluffy rabbit or something. Who says constellations can’t overlap? Or even share stars? Get more creative, ancient Greeks. Think outside the box.

7·1 day agoNo I know he wanted to, absolutely. I know he wanted to with every fiber of his being. And I have no doubt that he absolutely would have. But his ex wives also knew what he was.
I heard a woman tell the story of going to Maralago with her teenage daughter and being pulled aside by Mrs. Trump and being told to not let any of he men near her daughter, especially Donald. The former Mrs Trump later denied this publically, but we all know that that happened.
Given they knew, and could almost certainly destroy him if they were inclined, I can see a world where he was told that if he crossed that line, it would be the end of his public reputation and probably his life as a free man. And I can also see him taking out his sexual frustrations on these trafficked girls. I’ve seen, I think, two separate instances where it’s been mentioned that he showed particular interest in blondes or, even more explicitly, a girl that looked like Ivanka and was of a similar age. Dude could have been raping other girls that looked like Ivanka specifically because he couldn’t rape his own daughter.
But of course, there is a real possibilities that he did in fact sexually abuse or rape Ivanka. I think it’s notable that she doesn’t seem to be at all involved in his second administration. And he doesn’t mention her much really anymore. Maybe some bad history boiled over? Maybe he crossed that line even now? Idk.

23·2 days agoHe is trying to bring about the second coming. If you are an evangelical Christian who genuinely believes you are at the end times, it is unreasonable to be concerned with anything else but contributing to prophecy and siding with “God’s people”. Particularly as he is getting older and has less and less stake in the future of the Earth, and he’s now looking towards his eternal future stake in Heaven.
Given his beliefs, he is acting in the most rational, predictable way. The fact that his beliefs are a fucking farce, and detached from reality, makes his rationale inherently broken. But you will never convince him that his beliefs are wrong.
Lindsey Graham is up for reelection in South Carolina this year.
So knowing those things, knowing that he literally cannot rationally be concerned with your peace, your economy, your welfare, your freedom, or your life when it is compared to the return of his messiah to bring him and all his ilk to God, the most important thing in his faith… why would you vote for him to lead your country? If you also believe the same things as him without a doubt in your mind and wish him to work towards prophecy too, sure, voting for him is entirely rational given the premise. But short of that, if you wish for this country and world to be in good shape when Jesus inevitably doesn’t come… if you are a patriotic voter, a conservative, MAGA, moderate or otherwise, that decided before that Graham might be good for this country, then why the hell would you ever give your vote to him again? Someone who admits his only concerns lie with Isreal, US be damned. Who is eagerly looking forward to the apocalypse.
You don’t have to hate the guy for practicing his beliefs, but you do need to question why you would ever put him and his beliefs in charge over your future that he very much does not care about. Vote Graham out.

33·3 days agoI have absolutely no concern with adaptations exploring and reimagining the female monster aspect of the story, but calling that a “major plot point” in the original story is a stretch.
The monster demands a bride, Frankenstein starts to make him one, and then realizes that that is a fucking terrible idea and abandons the effort. That’s about it. And most of that gets yadda yadda’d through off page, if I recall. He never makes a second monster at all inthe end. Yeah, sure, it pisses off the monster, but he was already pissed so it ultimately changed next to nothing.

5·3 days agoThe plot literally revolves around making a female monster, as the titular Bride, for the existing male monster. You’re stretching really hard to make mentioning sex in this context as sexist. Sex is plot relevant in this movie, again, called “The Bride”, and they didn’t say it was uninteresting because it was a female lead character. They mentioned many details that left them uninterested and none of it hinged on sexism. Chill out.

12·3 days agoStill, in the comics it’s clear that Scott isn’t smart or heroic and the movie kind of has the opposite story.
I mean it’s not entirely clear from the start.
It’s a major plot point of the comics/manga that Scott has a self realization that he’s been kind of a shitty person for a long time. A lot of the stories he tells himself about the past, stories that we the reader are meant to take to be the truth at first, namely his rescue of Kim, are distorted by his narcissism. He’s in fact much less heroic than he likes to think he is, sometimes even outright toxic. But it’s acknowledging that fact that let’s him learn, and grow to become a better person. He accepts his flaws, apologizes for his past behavior, takes responsibility for his mistakes, and matures considerably.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Anyone remember that "First is the worst, second is the best" rhyme kids used to do? Where did that come from?
3·3 days agoWhen I was in Kindergarten, we would all race to get to our seats in the morning and call out “first”, “second”, “third” and so on as we sat down. We’d of course, always have the first two jeering and arguing about being in “First place!” And “First is the worst, second is best!” No idea how a bunch of 5-6 year olds knew this ubiquitous phrase.
But there was this one weird kid who kept coming in third, and he’d always say the same thing. “Well, actually, if you start counting at 0, then I’m actually second. So I’m the best.” And that guy was the worst. I wish I could say that that kid was destined to be a programmer and got an early start on the meme, but no… he was just just dumb and still is.

That video goes over all of the basic tools specifically if that is helpful.
“What is this thing? It’s made of flesh and bone. It feels soft and shaves off easily with a knife, until you get to the middle and then it is much harder and cutting it requires a hacksaw. And the shavings don’t melt, but taste similar to pork. It keeps screaming its name is “Sharon McMillan”. Can anyone ID?”
“Oops, found its Drivers License. Turns out its name was in fact “Sharon McMillan.” I feel silly now, but mystery solved!”

Ask@piefed.social•Married people, do you have a wedding ring? Do you always wear it?English
2·4 days agoYes I have one, no I don’t wear it all the time, nor does my wife wear hers all the time. I go for stretches sometimes where I wear it a lot, but it is slightly oversized, which makes it slightly uncomfortable after a while, and I’m scared it will slip off (i lost my first band, this is my replacement). It’s almost always in my pocket though. My wife mostly only wears hers for special occasions. Neither of us are jewelery people in general.

In all fairness, I think we should remember the Alamo, too, just not for the reasons that phrase was coined. Remember the Alamo, where a bunch of racists were killed defending their desire to enslave black people. May all racists find their Alamo. And may it not take two wars to put those racists in their place.
