  • I disagree pretty hard, particularly when the history in question is the first contact between cultures. It is European American history as much as Native American history. It is both of their story to tell. There is obviously a difference in power dynamics between those two parties, but to categorize the entirety of media exhibiting the history wherein those cultures contacted as exploitative or appropriation, just makes no sense. And discouraging that sort of media just lends to even more ignorance than we already have.

Inaccurate, whitewashed, insensetive, malicious, or otherwise disrespectful depictions of cultures and history are a problem. But accurate depictions of history, particularly of or involving your own culture (though I would argue that it doesn’t matter the culture if it is accurate and reapectful), are educational, representative, and not something to discourage. And they are not exploitative unless made at the expense of someone else.

  • On the one hand, I hate onions. So I totally get it. I wish I could sue every time someone sticks one in my food as a disgusting surprise too.

On the other hand, if you have a food allergy, that is different than just requesting “no onion” on your burger. They have to take steps to prevent cross contamination. It is a whole thing, and he should know that if he is really that allergic. He would be having this issue all the time becuase (as I well know and lament as an onion hater) onions are in a ton of foods everywhere you go.

They would only be negligent and liable if he told them that he was allergic and they claimed to have taken precautions to prevent exposure of his food. If he just asked for no onions and had an allergic reaction because they messed up his order like every fast food restaurant in the world does sometimes, that is not gross negligence, that is a standard accident.

  • Had a landlord paint the inside of my bathtub with white latex paint. Did you know that latex paint is slippery as fuck when wet? Because I fucking do now. I literally bought adhesive grip tape for the bottom of my tub/shower. By the end of my stay ~15 months later, nearly all the paint was chipped away from repeatedly being blasted with hot water and stepped on, revealing the years of hard water limescaling they were trying to cover up. Why fix it when you can cover it and create a serious safety hazard? But of course I had to scrub every spec of every surface before I left or lose my entire deposit.

  • What difference does most of that make? Sharing a room with others, sure. But I don’t walk around the house hanging dong just because I sleep in the buff. I put on some pj pants and a shirt, at minimum, to leave the room. My roommates have never cared what i slept in as long as it didn’t flash them on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

My wife and I have our own room. I have a door, it is shut at night while I’m asleep and doesn’t open again until I get dressed in the morning. If you open it in that time and see penis and scrote or hairy ass cheeks, that’s on you. I don’t care if you’re a roommate asking me a question, a 6 year old that had a nightmare, or a fireman saving my life. You know what you risked when you turned the knob. If you give me a second of heads up or wake me and then wait for a sec, I’ll put on something. But I’m not sleeping in twisted up boxers with sweaty nuts sticking to my legs to make life more comfortable and convenient for everyone else in the house.
