Fuck lawns, but adding a parking lot is just stupid. Just buid some proper multi family and transit. You could have easily build a three or four story apartment building on that lot, which integrates fairly well.

collapse@lemmy.zip•Weimar Republic economy gets Weimar Republic resultsEnglish
1·12 hours agoUltimately ecomic systems are a way to organizing production and distributing the products. So in other words logistics. Capitalism is a way of doing that. It has quite a few downsides, but for example fewer people have died due to starvation globally in the last 50years combined, as due to the Great Leap Forward alone. Capitalism is just not the worsed system we have tried.

Ukraine•The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02.22 to 17.04.26English
7·5 days agoIt can also be an increase in Ukraines range. If for example AA and jammers have been destroyed in sections of the front, you would expect longer range Ukrainian attacks.

Global News@lemmy.zip•The 'becoming Chinese' meme shows China's soft power moment is hereEnglish
41·6 days agoIt is honestly surprising, that it took so long. China is a massive country, with a large economy. They should be an absolute leader in exporting cultural products. Especially since China inherited Hong Kongs massive movie industry, which decline after the hand over.

They fixate on presumption and emotion because they cannot engage with intellectual debate.
People usually have an emotional standpoint first and then construct an intellectual argument for that emotional position. Also they mostly just ignore facts, that do not line up with their world view and if you “win” an argument, they usually just shut you out. So the best way is to go for emotions first.
To solve the climate crisis, we need to shut down fossil fuel infrastructure. Missiles are great at doing that.

Makes me think of mcmansionhell.com
There are something like 100k Israelis who are still alive and survived the Holocaust. That is mostly just due to the Holocaust ending over 80years ago and people die of old age.
Honestly I dislike the constant Holocaust comparisons. They play into Israeli propaganda, as the connection between Israel and Jews is very obvious and Jews were the victims of the Holocaust. That makes Israel look like a victim just defending itself.

World News@quokk.au•Brazil's top labor inspector fired for adding China's BYD to 'dirty list'
24·7 days agoThe focus on BYD follows a 2024 case in which 163 Chinese workers employed by a contractor were found building the automaker’s flagship factory in Brazil under what Brazilian officials described as “slavery-like” conditions.
Seems like BYD deserves to be on the list.

Green Energy@slrpnk.net•Cuba could beat US energy blockade with $8bn investment in renewables, says thinktankEnglish
21·7 days agoDoes Cuba have $8bn for that? Seriously the economy is complete shit due to the US blockade and the nominal GDP was $250billion last year. Obviously a lot of that also has to go for food and other basics, which seems to be a real problem right now.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Global fossil power generation fell after the Hormuz closure due to solar and wind growthEnglish10·7 days agoPutin managed to do something similar before. The issue is that high fossil fuel prices also mean massive profits for fossil fuel companies. Since green technologies take time to deploy, this means fossil fuel companies have a lot of money for corruption.
The good news is that there are tipping points. Things like fossil fuel jobs are cut and companies leave countries. For example the UK has no longer coal power plants. So the coal lobby is going to be extremely weak in the UK.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump says U.S. will blockade Strait of Hormuz and intercept ships that paid tolls to IranEnglish
7·9 days agoThis is getting the bribe money. Insider trading on Trump is going to be much better then under say Biden. He also makes the rich even richer and especially the oil and gas industry in the US.

What a lot of people also ignore, is that Israel and Russia are actually relatively close given the general relationship between Russia and the West. Not exactly allies, but Israel did not even sanction Russia after the full scale invasion and refuses to sell or even allow the transfer of weapons to Ukraine. They also cooperated in Syria and there are a lot of Russians living in Israel, including many oligarchs. Putin tends to say that he supports Palestinians, but he is very willing to sell oil to Israel. Also no sanctions or anything, so this is just rethoric from Putin.
