BattleBit Remastered, a 254-player low-poly multiplayer shooter made by a small indie team, is now storming the charts. Last week, it generated more revenue on Steam than some AAA blockbusters like CoD: Modern Warfare II and Starfield.
Here is a 5 months old video by AngryJoe praising BattleBit before it was cool: https://youtu.be/Xbv5TLJdLQk Mind you, he was a big Battlefield fan. Glad to see this game made it! Man Steam is truly the platform to take off indie games. (Hopefully Epic Games won’t buy this studio too…)
I still wonder why the game has “Remastered” in the title. A research could not answer my question.
It can be said straight away that there is no such thing as a Battlebit Original (and at the same time there is). There was no other game before Battlebit that could be called an original. So why does Battlebit have Remaster in its name? It is related to the long production cycle.
The developers explain that the game has been in production since 2016 and a lot has changed. Apparently “the game has been rewritten 3 times, and its core worked 2 times”. So it could be said that there has only ever been one Battlebit game, however, it has undergone so many changes since the original version that the developers felt the word Remaster was more fitting for the current state of the game compared to its origins.
That explanation is a perfect irony of the AAA industry as well. Just fabulous! Thanks for finding this answer.
A friend of mine got me into the game. Honestly, the graphics were a bit of learning curve for me. I play mostly indie games, but even for me, the fidelity was lacking. I think the shooting lacks a bit of punch, but once I got over that after the first few hours, a deeply satisfying, and FUN Battlefield-style game was waiting for me. Well worth supporting the developers anyway, even if it is just to get EA to notice and up their game for the franchise.
