Thinking of getting this guy but I’ve never spent this much money on a knife and this guy seems so unique and useful. $230 is a lot though. What do you guys think on the value for this?

    Honestly?

    Kinda too much, yeah

They’re built well, so if you get it, it’ll last for you.

It’s just that it’s past the dollar figure where it makes sense. You can get sturdy, reliable knives for about half that nowadays. Even with cold steel having shit on their warranty, there’s options from them that are just as tough.

That being said, if you’re into that design, there aren’t really any that are similar enough to match it, and Demko for sure designs usable knives that also look cool, so that aspect is difficult to quantify in cash.

And I’m not saying this because spending big bucks on knives is a hard no. I’ve spent more than that on knives, for the exact reason I just mentioned; sometimes there’s nothing else that fits all the design parameters, so you either pony up or do without. I have multiple benchmade 710s because that design fits my hands and preferences perfectly. And I paid through the nose for most of them (excepting the original).

I’ll also say that if you can, finding somewhere you can handle an expensive knife before buying is a great idea. Buying on looks on a screen and the specs without handling it, any knife could be a disappointment.

I would love to try out even the budget model to get the feel for it but I don’t know if any local stores even have them and never even heard of a local knife store

Ah, well in that case, it’s a tough decision. I’m lucky to be in realistic driving distance of smkw, so even if the most local shop doesn’t have something, I can plan a trip.
