Never preorder. Never buy on day 1. Never pay full price.

There are enough games out there to play that you can always find something else until it’s been vetted and discounted.

It takes two, the publisher to offer the deal and buyers to take the deal.

I don’t mean to insult anyone who really values being there day one, but for me I just don’t care about early access at all. Playing a game a few days early is so unimportant to me I would never even consider paying extra for it.

Just because they’re normalised, it doesn’t mean they’ve won. There are still plenty of us out there who refuse to pay full price for a game, let alone do something as stupid as pre-order

This one never seemed like a big deal to me compared to some of the other blatantly manipulative practices they sometimes employ

I have a few early access games in my library, but they have been “early access” for 5 years now. IMO that doesn’t count as “early” anymore. I’ve never bought a game within the first year of release, much less 5 days before release. But if people are willing to do that, hey, it’s their choice to get disappointed 🤷
