ngl PLV statement on the Ama Namin thing kinda make sense to me. i get that it could be interpreted as ridicule or mockery but at least from the video it really looks like everyone’s just having a good time

idk but if i were almighty all-powerful omnipotent everything i’d be sad if my followers would boring sluggish lame af when they worship my name lmao

imagine all the bangers and bops written in your name and your followers draw the line at drag + punk rock wtf is up with that. Gregorian chants are a few notes away from sounding like devilish incantations

Nice. Looks thicker than default Calibri. LMAO kung kailan nag Calibri ang US Government, that’s when Aptos is released.

Parang mas maganda tignan ung sans serif Aptos vs. Serif Aptos

TIL of Silbo Gomero (informally called Silbo), a whistling language originating from La Gomera, part of the Canary Islands under Spanish rule.

    Silbo/Sylbo language in action (link).

While the community of La Gomera speak Spanish, Silbo is a required subject for La Gomera students, and considered a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. They had to resort to such communication as the terrain (mostly ravines and valleys) usually made direct, face-to-face communication inconvenient and impractical. Think of it this way: going to your neighbor the next mountain over for some juicy Maritess time is tiring, so might as well whistle it instead!

The Silbo language was almost made extinct due to advancements in technology, but thankfully, government intervention has kept the language alive and well, albeit a small fraction of the whole Spanish population only using it (Canary Islands).

The whistled language replaces each vowel or consonant with a whistling sound: two distinct whistles replace the five Spanish vowels, and there are four whistles for consonants.

Although the Silbo language is basically Spanish converted to whistle, according to the teacher in the youtube video linked above, theoretically one can use their own language. Just apply the necessary phonetic/audio rules (sorry don’t know the exact term) and you’re golden.

Absolutely fascinating language based on sounds alone!

Have a great weekend mga Phlemmings.

    whistles Magbalik intro in Silbo

EDIT: Holy Shit, Turkey also has such a language! It’s called kuş dili literally Turkish Bird Language.

Vice has a mini-documentary on the subject. I’ve gotta say parang ibon talaga.

    Absolutely fascinating.

And is that a bad thing? The womb is a dark, warm, and comforting place. A place for us to get ready for the bright wide world outside.

Sorry to hear that. Getting stuck is bad, but getting stuck at a bad place is way a lot worse.

I guess that’s your destination for the time being then: anywhere but there.

Preferably, someplace where you can take a rest and take stock of what’s happening. Someplace where you can figure out what to do next. Kung baga, kung naulan sa labas at hindi maka-tuloy ng commute, pasok muna sa nearest fastfood or convenience store, bili ng cup noodles at siopao, mag-isip. (Nagka-cravings tuloy ako bigla, lol!)

But seriously, mejo joke, pero parang ganun ata talaga eh.

Today’s Ask PHlemmy: What is the “don’t go down there” street in your city?

      Cavite

Edit: But in all seriousness, as a QC boy, almost every part of the city here is dangerous. If you park your car and leave it unattended in Visayas Ave, you’re going to come back to a broken window. If you walk alone and not a local in Pag-Asa or Agham, you’d likely run into trouble.

That’s surprising for me who have lived in Pasay as a child. Akala ko mas safe ang QC. Tapos yung area sa tapat ng Pisay? Feels like home, lol! (Though hindi mo ako mapapalakad dun lalo na kung gabi.)

But I admit, I was warned about really sketchy areas sa QC. I think the key is not to “look like a local” but rather, “look like you’re not worth the effort,” lol! Kung kaya, totoohanin na! IDK tho, maybe I exude that “batang skwatter” vibes that I’ve been spared, or I just haven’t been outside enough.

Tbf, medyo “safe” na sa may Pisay area these days because of the development in that area, particularly Vertis North. Alala ko I accidentally asked the North Ave bus to drop me off thinking na Trinoma na, yun pala I was still several meters away and I ended up alighting to a dimly-lit street on the opposite side of Agham/NIA road at 1AM. May guards so I didn’t feel scared at all.

I think what makes QC a “don’t go down there” city is because there’s clusters of squatters everywhere. I don’t want to sound “matapobre” but when there’s a squatters area, it typically has hoodlums and other criminals and they also don’t take too kindly of outsiders. There will be a gated subdivision but just behind it are squatters. A posh mall but when you go up to the roofdeck your view are squatters. Business district but if you wander too far away you’ll end up in a shanty town.

Nice to hear about the improvements in the Pisay area, I guess?

I do understand the sentiment na delikado for outsiders to wander around in a squatter’s area. Having grown up in (or near) one, I think the key point really is “they don’t take too kindly to outsiders.” That much, I can attest from personal experience.

Iwas na lang talaga para safe. This is actually in line din dun sa sagot ko kay the Yaya.
