      Lowkey it’s pretty garbage lol.

But it’s by Facebook and a lot of people are already joining it. I feel like if anyone can compete with twitter it’ll be them (even though I genuinely despite Zuck)

Yeah people just want an alternative to Twitter. As long as it does the primary function (tweet) and has the users, it will grow.

I loved Reddit and Twitter until they made it clear users were not the focus anymore. I’d never lock myself behind those systems again. I made that mistake twice. I use beautifully built 3rd party apps that were cut off at the kneecaps with no warning. I’m here to stay. For some, that meta data mine will be all they want / need, so good for them?

Probably imported, but that doesn’t make them less real. The ease of transferring accounts will be a major advantage for this platform.

My guess is that a good part of those people are just trying to reserve a good username and then will sit on it.

Probably the same reason people from Reddit deffered to Lemmy. Discontent with the current service provider.

That’s not the question. The question is, why are people satisfied with Meta as a service provider, given everything they know about them.

And the answer is: Instagram. People don’t actually associate Instagram with Meta in the same way they do with Facebook, given that one used to be the name of the company.

Threads is an extension to Instagram. Hell, most Twitter users jumping over probably didn’t even need to create an account, because they’re already active on Instagram.

This is pretty true. I was talking to my gf abt meta making Instagram threads and she was confused why meta was making a product under the Instagram label before I told her that meta owned Instagram. Tbf to her she hasn’t installed Instagram in years so its not like she would see meta branding in their current app or whatever they do.

Celebs got paid for it probably.

Everyone else thinks it’s a harmless test and are trying it. Esp since Twitter is disemboweling itself.

Wow. Was not expecting growth so rapidly.

I don’t like Meta or Twitter, but I am rooting for Meta in this battle. Just sick of Musk’s antics.

At any rate, I’ve got my popcorn ready.
