  • My “plea” is simply that when you talk to people that are ripe for radicalization, you ask yourself first “is this helpful” rather than just caring only about “being correct”.

It’s the “coffee shop” test mate. If you overheard a conversation about the OP in a coffee shop would you bust in and start screaming about how much of a Zionist the Congressman is? Or would you act like a normal human being and try to meet people where they are at? You don’t convince people that are just finally becoming critical of Israel of your (our) position by not first acknowledging where they are correct in their thinking. We are humans. They’re gonna close their minds when you say shit like this. You’re not saying something to be helpful. You’re saying something to be “shocking” to them for your own self self aggrandizement.

You started this with “the zionist is getting attacked by Zionist”. You said that for yourself. You only started “educating” people after you got the reaction you were looking for. So you could argue with someone that would never agree with you because you essentially screamed at them in a coffee shop.

I’m literally commenting here in response to you only because of how badly you’re communicating something I agree with. I don’t think I deserve a “fuck off” for that. But, I guess if you were good at communicating we wouldn’t have gotten to that point in the first place.

  • Let them praise him. He doesn’t have to be an antizionist. He’s a symbol of antizionism here. That’s whats being praised.

Like, I have my criticisms of the “two state - right to exist” Liberals. But, what did you expect progress to look like comrade? The same Liberals that spent years talking about October 7th in every sentence and “right to defend itself”. Those liberals are being forced to acknowledge the crimes of Israel. This is a win. You’re making those that advocate for Palestinians look unreasonable and irrational.

I understand being upset at these libs. I understand why you still call him a Zionist. But, my friend, please, we have a long way to go still; criticizing a Congressman felt a fraction of a fraction of the oppression Palestinians feel every day in the West Bank. It’s not productive in this context. There are plenty of context to criticize him. The libs see this and dislike Israel. Just let that be the discussion.

Apartheid South Africa ended when the liberals of the West were finally forced by activist and leftist into performative things just like this. This is a good sign. Let it happen.

The liberals praising anything against Israel is good. We’re gonna have to cringe and bite our tongue when they treat Congressman as heroic for this. They are treating action against Israel as a positive. They are treating West Bank settlers as enemies. That’s amazing. Remember where we came from just three years ago; and where we are today. They’ll understand your current criticism one day. But this is not the context in which to educate them.

  • Can we first know what “right to exist” means for the context of a nation state? Surely, Nazi Germany didn’t have a “right to exist”. So, surely it’s not a universal right like a person’s right to exist? This means there are things a state can do that revoke it’s “right to exist”? So, what does it actually mean?

    • All states (even Nazi Germany) have a “right to exist” and it cannot be revoked.

    • No states have a “right to exist”.

    • All states have a right to exist until some defined violation that revokes that right.

    • It’s a meaningless phrase that is only used in the context of defending a genocidal apartheid state.

I’m leaning towards thinking they are using the last definition.

  • So, there were restrictions on the types of weapons used in areas civilians were located; and he explains how him and other troops circumvented that to use more explosive weapons without command knowing.

Like, this is bad on its own. I don’t know why people have to pretend it’s him talking about literally targeting civilians.

I think Israel has broken people’s brains. We’ve all spent years having to deal will evidence and footage of the worst possible crimes and our governments have done nothing about it. So, when something like this comes up, that is bad is in its own right, seems so mute in comparison. So we have to infer intent and even worse circumstances in order for it to feel relevant.

Thank you for the source. I did actually read this previously. But, it was so far away from the initial comment that I had to assume I missed another comment about it somewhere.

I really wish we could go back to a world where a fair reading of this comment was condemned as a war crime (as it should be) without having to embellish and infer even worse narratives around it.

Edit: I actually read the full comment and not just your screenshot. I think your screenshot was missing some parts still. There is an archive of all of them. Easily found via Google. The start of the comment talks about his team being restricted on the munition types they were using to hit targets they were assigned. He never says or implies they were targeting anything other than what they were told to.

Again, that’s not an excuse. But I think people like to believe our military maintains it’s power by being filled with evil child killers. When, our military maintains it’s loyalty of its troops by decentralizing it’s acts of violence. Making sure all of its troops rarely feel any personal connection to the lives they are taking.

  • Thanks. I was asking for a source though. Because many times I hear shit about Platner it ends up being a comment where he’s talking about someone he knew or literally about the video that was posted. A lot of his comments were on combatvideo posts. Never heard this one and a lot of people are in the “we told you” of misinformation right now.

I looked through comments in the archive and couldn’t find anything like the original comment.

  • Thanks. That’s definitely better than I thought. That it was existing I mean. Doing all the infra required to add a means tested program did not sound like a Mamdani style policy. But just making it a less strict means test is a step in the right direction. Just better quality of life changes over and over from Mamdani. He’s really selling sewer socialism well to New York.

  • Agreed. We’re also seeing a lot of people expose themselves as rapist or rape apologist because of this. Like, I hope this can be a learning moment for them, but I doubt it will be.

It’s just really basic shit. Like not understanding that consent can be revoked at anytime.

Like, even people I really respect are trying to place doubt on this poor woman.

Like I really respect Ryan Grim from DropSite news. But he literally just posted about “missing context”.

This is not “journalist integrity”. This is a conscious choice by Politico to not include a portion of the story in their story that would introduce victim blaming. It is not “context”. It’s about as useful as telling us what Platner had to eat on the day he raped her.

CONSENT CAN BE REVOKED AT ANY TIME. If Platner didn’t stop when that consent was revoked than he’s a rapist. That’s it.

I guess Ryan Grim has boomer brainrot or something. He should have provided the additional “context” and then explained it how I just did. This “asking for it” rape culture shit really needs to die. It’s people like him that I hope learn from this. Because DropSite and him are really doing good work. I think it just shows how much rape culture is still a part of our society throughout the political spectrum.

It’s just hard right now to educate people when the tensions and frustrations are so high right now. It’s hard to differentiate between the people worth using this moment to teach; and those that should be shamed for being rape apologist. Some people are just not worth the effort and that’s ok.

Sorry, rant, but I read your reply after being frustrated by this shit.
