Programming@programming.dev•Is there any use in learning an "easy" programming language?
4·3 days agoSo Go was meant to be something similar to Java 4. A language where it is very difficult to shoot to your feet.
That kind of wealth is inherited.
For example: Today’s rich families in Florence, Italy, were rich 700 years ago https://qz.com/694340/the-richest-families-in-florence-in-1427-are-still-the-richest-families-in-florence
Because blocking web sites is worse than bombing civilians for decades, right?
Frieren should do to rich people what she does to demons!

Programming@programming.dev•Microsoft Wants to 'Make People Addicted' to its New AI Assistant, Internal Documents Reveal
10·5 days agoInstagram and TikTok already made hundreds of thousands of users addicted, also causing suicides.
The mechanism behind addiction in LLMs, Instagram and TikTok is similar to the one of slot machines: variable rewards, rapid feedback loops, and the exploitation of deep-seated pattern-seeking tendencies.

Europe@lemmy.ml•Euro-Office, Europe's open-source alternative to Microsoft Office and Google Docs, launches June 9
1·5 days agoImagine somebody from an African country who suffered for centuries because of European colonization an slave trade. I would not be enthusiastic about using “Euro” office.
Even if they wanted to signal their European affiliation, the could choose other names, like Socrates Office, Plato Office, Hegel Office, Dante Office, Copernicus Office, etc.

2·5 days agoIn Open Source projects, I would love to see more collaboration and less competition, because too many forks risk creating chaos and confusion in potential adopters.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think all billionaires deserve to die?
11·6 days agoThey deserve to spend their remaining days in humble, honest work, perhaps as janitors, and to write three or four books reflecting on their mistakes and seeking forgiveness.
What China did to the last emperor was the way to go.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is social interaction actually enjoyable or just socially required?
6·7 days agoYou will feel like this until you do two things:
- Understand what you like, only you. Not your parents, not your siblings, not your friends, just you. It could be things considered unusual where you live, such as “salmon fishing in the Yemen.”
- Find people who enjoy the same things as you.
You do not have to dedicate your time to people you neither like nor have anything in common with.

10·10 days agoMy 10 years old self would not believe the current state of dating and distrust among people in general. Erich Fromm described it in 1952, but in Europe it arrived much later.
Also the lack of attention caused by smartphone and the almost disappearance of casual conversations on the bus, the train, etc. Sometimes people is afraid of casual conversations with strangers.
