Damn, bees only live 45 days? Ants last 4 years…i did not expect that :/
PS: turns out wasps have an even shorter life expectancy: 12-22 days :p
Depends when they are born. Spring and summer bees only live 6-8 weeks. But fall and winter born bees live about 6 months.

not god damn short enough
I’m doing all I can
Wasps running hot explains so much about why they are such dicks.
“You think you got problems? I was born last week and I’m having a mid life crisis right now!”
The only silver lining.

Bees get drafted at 18
Wow, bees live a lot like us humans, right up to the middle age “well, I guess I’m going to work until I die” mentality.

This is only the life of female bees laid by a fertilized queen.
The male drones and and queen have a different lifecycle

another cool fact: beekeeping isn’t ethical
While not a very helpful comment, its true.
Honey bees displace native bees and pollinators, and are vectors for disease for other bees.
The European honeybee is well and truly naturalized across the world. They’ve been in North America for 500 years now, the ecology has fully adapted to them.
There are unethical ways to do it, but it’s not a simple hardline and it hasn’t nearly the philosophically strong arguments like other forms of animal keeping have for being unethical.
Can you link me to some good readings on this topic? I’m on a path towards veganism, but still use Honey because I didn’t see any major ethical issues with it as I believed it was beneficial for them.
